Each edition gives you a hands-on experiment that shows how AI can sharpen your thinking, streamline your process, and power up your creative work. ## This week's playground: handing a real task to your AI tool's own browser Computer use isn't new, and neither is browser access. Both have been around for a while—the issue was always speed. Watching an AI click through a page one step at a time, slowly enough to make a coffee run worthwhile, wasn't exactly a productivity win. That's changing fast, and it's worth another look now that it's quick enough to feel practical for many real tasks. The version worth trying lives in the desktop apps. Claude Desktop runs this through Cowork, with its own built-in browser. ChatGPT's desktop app runs it through Work, with its own built-in browser too. Both can act on supported sites that require a login, and both can also save a file straight to your computer instead of just handing you text to copy. Note: ChatGPT Work has a cloud browser that can run from web or mobile. Claude Cowork can also run browser tasks in the cloud using either Claude's built-in browser (with Claude Desktop open) or the Claude in Chrome extension. To reliably update the same file on your computer each time, use the desktop app and grant access to that file or folder. ## Why this matters You already know the manual version of these tasks: checking whether anyone you follow on LinkedIn posted something new, logging into an online account to download a statement, or adding a running list of items to a shopping cart one at a time. None of it is hard. All of it is the kind of small, repetitive browser work that eats time in five-minute chunks and never feels worth blocking calendar time for, so it gets skipped more often than it gets done. For today's experiment, we're using the AI browser capabilities to monitor competitive channels—blog, LinkedIn, YouTube—for anything new. ## Your AI experiment: try this prompt 👉 Time to tinker: Use the desktop app for whichever tool you're testing and navigate to the Cowork (Claude) or Work (ChatGPT) tabs—this is where the built-in browser and local file saving capabilities work. - Claude: open Claude Desktop, go to Settings → Cowork → Preferred browser, and turn on the built-in browser. - ChatGPT: open the ChatGPT desktop app, go to Settings → Browser, and turn on the built-in browser. There is a password manager in there as well as granular settings about which sites the browser can access. Personally, I like the built-in browser better than the Chrome browser—I don't like how it can take over parts of my screen and open tabs. I like the browser to stay in its box. Now, pick one to a few URLs to monitor: a LinkedIn company page, a competitor's blog, a YouTube channel, or even your credit card's benefits page (mine keeps changing and I can't keep up). 📝 Prompt: Using your browser, go to the following website: [URL: YouTube, LinkedIn, Blog, etc.] Find all content published within the past 7 days. Create or update a CSV file saved to my computer with these columns: source, title_or_description, link, publish_date For each newly found item, append a row to the CSV. Avoid adding duplicates that are already in the file. 💡 Pro tips: Get it right, then take it further Open the CSV and check it against the actual sites—a missed post here means a missed post every day after. Once it's accurate, here's where to take it next: - Schedule this task: Ask the tool to run this same check every day at [time] and, using the [Gmail or Outlook connector], email you at [your email address] when something new shows up. - Turn it into a Skill: Ask the tool to "create a Skill" that completes this task so you can run it whenever you want. - Take it a step further and have it monitor comments and sentiment on these posts and report back. ## What did you discover?
