AI won’t design your slides—but it’ll make them better

Welcome to this edition of Prompt, Tinker, Innovate—my AI playground. This time, we’re tackling a familiar pain: slides that don’t quite land. While AI might not design them for you, it can absolutely help make them better.
This week’s playground: AI as your slide critic
Designing slides? Still not AI’s strong suit.
Critiquing slides? It’s surprisingly great.
Instead of wrestling with layouts or rewording titles for the tenth time, let AI be your fast, blunt, always-on slide reviewer. Models like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini are now very good at diagnosing what’s holding your deck back, especially when paired with the right prompt.
My keynote moment: When AI saved the slide
One slide just wouldn’t land. Five rounds of edits, still off. With two hours before my keynote, I gave up—kind of. I handed it to ChatGPT (aka “Mia,” my AI teammate who tackles the impossible).
What came back? A clearer title, sharper phrasing, and cleaner flow. The slide finally felt right: confident, concise, and totally on-brand.
Try it yourself: The slide critique prompt
👉 Time to tinker: Upload a screenshot or full presentation of your slide into ChatGPT, Gemini, or Claude and paste the following prompt.
📝 Prompt: "Please analyze this slide and give feedback on:
Messaging: Clear? Concise? Effective?
Clarity and flow: Understandable at a glance? Hierarchy logical?
Design: Layout clean? Fonts legible? Colors and visuals working?
Top 3–5 fixes: Prioritize what would improve it most.”
💡 Pro tips: Want more precision? Try modifiers like:
“Rewrite this like it’s the opening slide of a TED Talk."
“Assume this is for a time-starved CEO—what would you cut?”
“Revise the messaging so it hits emotionally, not just logically.”
“Score each area (messaging, clarity, design) from 1–10, and explain why.”
“Tear this apart like a brutal creative director.”
What did you discover?
What did AI catch that you didn’t? Got a before/after? Send it my way—I might feature your glow-up in a future edition.
